I write simple songs about awakening loving awareness through higher levels of consciousness. Using earthly themes, I like to paint subtle soundscapes that invoke the beauty of an ever-evolving universe. The sound of the water, the call of the ocean, live in the waking dream – it's a musical journey through the waves of existence. - David Martin
This album reflects a profound and personal journey through the exploration of higher consciousness and the pursuit of loving awakening. Across the nine songs, themes of love, self-discovery, and the interconnectedness of all life resonate deeply. The lyrics often intertwine earthly experiences with spiritual concepts, inviting listeners to reflect on their place within the vast expanse of ideas and philosophies about the universe.
Songs like "Mission to the Sun" and "Pray for Your Peace" point to an aspirational vision of reaching beyond the confines of the self, transcending life's challenges, and embracing love and unity. Martin's lyrics invite a search for meaning, combining a desire for peace with the recognition that there are no simple answers—only a journey of becoming.
In "Floating on the Water" and "Only Dreaming," Martin captures the feeling of drifting through existence, where moments flow effortlessly, yet there’s a constant search for a deeper connection. This fluidity is mirrored in his use of natural imagery, like the waves, the sun, and the ocean, to evoke the ever-changing cycles of life and the quiet acceptance of what is.
Songs like "Cocoa Butter Ice-Cream" add a more playful, human touch, while "To Find a Better Life" takes a deeper, introspective approach, questioning the direction of one’s life and exploring the potential for growth and transformation.
The music itself, much like the lyrics, is an evolving soundscape, drawing the listener into a space where spiritual awareness and human emotions coexist. Martin’s emphasis on subtle beauty—through moments of silence, contemplation, and connection—creates a reflective and immersive experience that aligns with his belief in the beauty of an ever-evolving universe.
Ultimately, this collection paints a portrait of a soul deeply attuned to the rhythms of existence—searching, loving, and awakening. Through the lens of these songs, Martin offers both a personal and universal meditation on the beauty of life’s impermanence and the constant journey towards greater understanding.
"Pray for Your Peace" in particular is a deeply spiritual and personal journey of the sensitive artist underneath, reflecting the nervousness and vulnerability they feel just before stepping on stage, an hour before performing in front of an audience.
David suggests, “We are not fooling anymore” that you “reach for the book on the shelf” for guidance. For him it was the Big Book of NA and AA but for others it could be the Bible, the Gita, any Book that explains to the person the meaning of a peaceful beautiful and loving life.
