Birdsong New Music Foundation will select a minimum of three and a maximum of six unpublished musicians per year. Our selections will be based on lyrics and a YouTube video presentation. We want to hear about your love of music, your struggles with mental health, and the role music plays in your coping strategies.
Each selected artist will be awarded financing towards music production studio, professional producing and mastering your chosen songs, which will then be released through our website and various distribution partners. Your songs may also be included in our next compilation album (see First Flight 101), which will include physical distribution.
As it is with our existing roster of artists, you will retain the full copyright to your songs. If you aren't already, we will assist you in registering with SOCAN. All revenue from the sale of our our compilation albums is split 50-50 between the artists with songs on the album and Birdsong. You will retain complete freedom to upload your song(s) for digital distribution outside of Birdsong's distribution model. It will be up to the performer/composer if they would like to donate 25% or more of the royalties from streaming and downloads of their single to the Birdsong Foundation. 100% of all such revenue will go towards funding additional scholarships.
We encourage all musicians/songwriters living with mental health issues whose passion for music is an integral part of their treatment and coping strategy, and who would like to see their original music recorded professionally, and released and marketed through our foundation to fill out our application form and email it to hello@birdsongfoundation.com.
