From the recording First Flight 101
An important legacy story about 19-year-old Jeffrey Thomas Elliot who died in Penetanguishene Correctional Center in Ontario due to violence and negligence inside the facility. He needed a mental health facility not a prison! We need to change our incarceration system to better serve the mentally ill and those that love them.
Jeffrery’s got a pick-up truck, it's old and painted primer grey.
Bought it at the county auction, him ‘n daddy gonna fix it up one day.
But soon little Jeffrey learns that the world goes by real fast.
And soon little Jeffrey learns some good things, they don't last.
I met Jeffrey Elliot in a place no child should ever be.
But Jeffery was a child trapped inside a man forgotten by society.
And soon when trouble come around, it preyed on young Jeffrey’s mind.
And soon when that Judge said guilty, they locked Jeffrey inside.
And his momma cried out. She cried out “My Son”.
In your dreams find your truck boy and you ride.
Ride past that second star to the right straight on til morning light.
And we will meet in Neverland, and with the Lost Boys and Peter Pan,
Together, we can shine the truth.
In Jeffrey’s truck.
Now all that’s left of Jeffrey’s truck, is a picture that Jeffrey drew for me.
Jeffrey died cause we put him in the prison,
Instead of a mental health facility.
And sometimes late at night, I hear an old pick-up roar.
And sometimes when it's late at night, well I wonder what all this is for.
And I sigh, and then I sing this song.
In my Dreams there's this truck boy, and we ride
Past that second star to the right on til the morning light.
And we will meet in Neverland
With the Lost Boys and Peter Pan.
Together we will shine the truth
In Jeffrey’s truck.
